FAQs

How do lessons work?
All lessons are private, one-on-one lessons held once per week in the comfort of your own home, with either in-person or online lessons available. Lessons combine piano and music theory, and vary in length depending on each student’s age and skill level. Our lessons follow our core philosophy of making learning the piano fun and enjoyable, while taking each student's individual needs and goals into account.

Who teaches the lessons?
All lessons are taught by either Miss Jennie or by one of our dedicated instructors who are passionate about music and committed to making learning the piano fun and engaging. All of our teachers follow our core philosophy of providing personalized, enjoyable lessons that help each student grow musically at their own pace.

Do you teach the RCM program and prepare students for the RCM exams?
Yes, our curriculum follows, but is not limited to, the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) certification program. We prepare students for all required RCM exams and also prepare students for music festivals and school auditions.

What age do you recommend starting piano lessons?
We typically recommend starting piano lessons between the ages of 5 and 6 years old. Children should have some fine motor skills, like holding and writing with a pencil and tying shoes. We also recommend school-aged children so that they have the patience and focus to sit for a minimum 30-minute lesson.

Do you teach adult students?
Yes we do! Whether you are a beginner, or looking to brush-up on your childhood skills, we can work with you and your goals to design the perfect lessons for you.

What is your availability?
We currently serve in-person lessons to students living throughout Mississauga and Brampton, Ontario, Canada, and online regardless of student location. When you contact us, please provide your home’s closest major intersection for in-home lessons, the number of students, their ages, and skill levels. We will then be able to provide our availability in your area.

How much are lessons, and how do payments work?
Lessons start at $30 per 30-minute session, with the length and cost depending on the student’s age and skill level. Tuition for the school year is divided into equal monthly payments, due on the 1st of each month via e-transfer. Summer lessons in July and August are billed separately.

Do you offer trial lessons?
While we don’t offer trial lessons, there are no cancellation fees if you decide to withdraw after the first lesson.

Do you have any registration or cancellation fees?
No, we do not have any registration or cancellation fees.

Do I need to pay a deposit?
Yes, a $50 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot every school year. This deposit will be applied to your first month’s payment.

How do I register for lessons, and when are your registration periods?
To register, please contact Miss Jennie directly at 416-704-6044 during studio office hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pm). You can also send us a message using the contact form on our website or email us at jennie@fepianolessons.com. We offer year-round registration, though our busiest times are in May/June and August/September. Do you have a studio I can come to?
We do not have a physical studio space. Lessons are conducted in your home or online.

What happens if I miss a lesson?
Each student is allowed one missed lesson per term, with a makeup session scheduled at a mutually convenient time. Lessons missed with less than 24 hours’ notice will not be made up, except under unusual circumstances.

Can I switch to online lessons if I can't attend in person?
Yes, we offer temporary online lessons in case of illness or inclement weather, subject to your teacher’s availability.

What if I need to withdraw from lessons?
You can withdraw at any time. There are no cancellation fees. Depending on the number of lessons completed to date, you may need to settle a balance or receive a refund. We appreciate reasonable notice when withdrawing.

How do holidays and vacations affect lessons?
We are closed on Sundays, statutory holiday weekends, Christmas break, and March break. If you’re planning an extended vacation (three or more consecutive weeks), you can hold your lesson spot for a fee.

What materials do I need for piano lessons?
You’ll need a keyboard, digital piano, or acoustic piano. It’s recommended to have an instrument with 88-weighted keys to build foundational skills. We can also provide or recommend lesson books and other materials at an additional cost.

Where should I set up my piano?
Set up your piano in a quiet, well-lit space in your home, free from distractions, to ensure focus during lessons and practice.

Do I need special technology for online lessons?
You’ll need a device with a high-speed internet connection and video calling software to connect with your teacher for online lessons.

How often should I practice the piano?
Your teacher will recommend a practice schedule based on your specific learning goals, needs, and skill level.

Do I need to sit with my child for their lessons?
Parents and guardians are not required to sit-in on lessons, but must ensure adult supervision is available in the home. Your teacher will record detailed notes and speak with you briefly regarding student progress at the end of every lesson.

Do you have piano recitals?
Yes, we have yearly piano recitals to showcase the hard work and dedication of our students.

Do you teach any other instruments?
